Really....?<div><div><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:36.0pt"><span lang="EN-US"><br /></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:36.0pt"><span lang="EN-US"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">A lot of hype has been gathering around the new We Are Scientists album ‘Barbara’. Just this week I have seen billboard after billboard in all the ‘right places’, (will anyone ever stop targeting this shit at the population of Shoreditch?). Stop me if I am being too judgmental here, but naming an album Barbara as a general rule of thumb doesn’t bode too well for me. The name alone gives me rushed images of some receptionist working in an office in southern California, whose only perks in life involve Oprah and microwave dinners. Unfortunately, the new album only solidifies my preconceptions. Having said that, not all is doom and gloom. </span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:36.0pt"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><span lang="EN-US"></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span"><span lang="EN-US"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Perhaps I am being a little harsh, as there are some songs on the album that are worth mentioning. For instance, ‘Rules Don’t Stop Me’ uses many of the trademark drum fills we have grown accustomed to, whilst Murray sings in his familiar, </span><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">‘the world is out to get me’</span></i></span><span lang="EN-US"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"> voice (which really does something for me). However, it is clear that the band has taken to a new sound. It’s happier, more bubblegum sweet and vintage. It’s not my bag at all. No, I like my ‘Scientists’ angry and perverse, with lyrics that match such sentiments.</span></span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:36.0pt"><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><span lang="EN-US"></span></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">To conclude, this album is the type of thing an MGMT fan would salivate over, only to end in some sort of lo fi ‘moshing’ frenzy. Lets face it, that sounds about as much as fun as genital warts.</span></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"> <o:p></o:p></span></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;text-indent: 36pt; "><span lang="EN-US"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">In the past, vintage has been described to me by one wise soul as almost ‘smelling ones own farts.’ Sorry to say ‘Scientists’, but I </span><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">ain’t</span></i></span><span lang="EN-US"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"> into that shit. Literally. </span></span></p> <!--EndFragment--> </div></div>Trials in Voxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13615574230923216041noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-614454282185047605.post-28209792116623746252010-06-08T05:39:00.000-07:002010-06-08T07:35:16.806-07:00Coco-A-Go-Go<object style="background-image:url(http://i4.ytimg.com/vi/OagijDvlQgU/hqdefault.jpg)" width="480" height="295"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/OagijDvlQgU&hl=en_US&fs=1"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/OagijDvlQgU&hl=en_US&fs=1" width="480" height="295" allowscriptaccess="never" allowfullscreen="true" wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></embed></object><div><br /></div><div>Now these guys definitely know what they are doing. Born from an innate need for hard bouncing beats and melodic gestures of complete and utter musical mastery, I whole-<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">heartedly</span> welcome Sub Focus into my life. I am eagerly anticipating their new album with such excitement I may even do a small wee. When I say small, what I really mean is hypothetical. <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Ok</span>, you get the picture. Sub Focus are pretty wonderful. Imagine how delighted I was to stumble upon this little gem?? </div><div><br /></div><div>Sub Focus+<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Rusko</span>+Coco= DEATH BY EAR ORGASM. </div><div><br /></div><div>Sub Focus were clever bastards by asking Coco to guest appear on this track. Her vocals are haunting and coarse. You can half imagine when she sings lines such as 'the night is young, I feel numb', and 'my conscience found a new name', you don't bloody well doubt she was most likely <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">caining</span> it the night before. Then by chance she stumbled into the studio to tear into this song like the late night kebab she gorged herself on before bed. (<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Hmmm</span>... on second thought.. have you seen the size of her?).</div><div><br /></div><div>Anyways, I am side tracking here. The original track is pretty amazing. It was on repeat all of last week on my <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">ipod</span>. But now <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">Rusko</span> has had a little go at it, this remix has now become my new obsession. Much like the drunken pest at the end of the bar 'I'll tell YOU when I've had enough'. </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Trials in Voxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13615574230923216041noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-614454282185047605.post-62400553392422571542010-06-08T05:21:00.000-07:002010-06-08T05:23:55.404-07:00A new blog<div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: georgia, serif; font-style: italic; ">So I have decided to start my own music blog. After years of reading what everyone else has to say about whatever they have to say about, it is time I embarked on my own aural discretions. </span></div>Trials in Voxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13615574230923216041noreply@blogger.com1
